I've been watching UBUNTU for a year or so and have played with it a few times. I am computer literate but don't know any programming. I'm not a young man either but I do have an interest in technology.
I find this email quite cryptic, but I see words like "mesh network" in here which I've heard a little about and want to learn more, also I have no idea what a "Inkscape-ready" is or "DynDNS" , or "GIS app" but I would like to attend a meeting to see what it's all about, and meet some of the dedicated local people behind the scenes. I'm retired so anytime is ok with me, I prefer daytime, because I'm old, but realize that most of you are working, so for me a weekend would be best, Hope to meet you guys soon.
Harry

I work overnights, so any time in the day is fine with me. I'd really like to attend the upcoming meeting and get started helping with something in the group. I've been using Ubuntu since Edgy. I'm already a self-appointed advocate and 'Ubuntu pusher' if you will.
Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hey Everyone
We have a number of new members, perhaps it's time to start organizing a not-so-monthly meeting for May. What times/dates *don't* work for those who want to come?
A few announcements;
Jaunty (9.04) is out, our remix is not yet. If you haven't upgraded yet do so soon, it's well worth the time!
I have Inkscape-ready CD distribution boxes. The front has some details about Ubuntu, the left hand side holds 3-4 Ubuntu CDs, and the right hand side some business cards for a local person that provides support services. They print on 8.5" x 11" cardstock, single sided color, and take a bit of cutting, folding, and glue to assemble. A local print shop in Manchester, Copy Express, charges $1.75/ea to print these in really nice vibrant colors. Let me know if you're interested, I'm thinking about cleaning it up to upload to the wiki.
We're now having monthly LAN parties at the DynDNS offices in Manchester under the GNHLUG banner, next game is TeeWorlds this Friday, May 1st, starting at 6pm. http://wiki.gnhlug.org/twiki2/bin/view/Www/GamingSIG has the address
Lastly, we're finally getting organized to get the cooperative layer 2 mesh network going in Manchester. This will work with any system but we're going to package some tools and network configuration for Ubuntu users to get the most out of it, including a small GIS app to display the current status of all the links and seamless migration between access points and wired/wireless connections. We'll also be promoting Ubuntu to new members on this network. Volunteers are needed from those with good "people skills" to those who like climbing on rooftops.
