[NH LoCo] remote desktop newby questions

I need to set up so I can remote desktop to a couple of linux (ubuntu &
debian) machines that are on my local net from the outside world.

I know the outside IP address changes regularly.

I'd thought it would be a lot easier than what the web searches I've done
indicate.

For instance I thought, with ubuntu, sendmail just worked. Apparently it's
been superseded with postfix.

Is there a quick-n-dirty way to setup, say, a cron job to email the current
outside IP to my gmail account that I've not found?

Also, since I'm NAT-ing from PC-A <> router/firewall <> Internet is there
something else I've got to take into consideration to get to PC-A from the
Internet?

Regards,
Mac
