i bought a computer nearly three years ago off craigslist.org. it was anold
apple titaninum powerbook G4. it came with tons of programs that worked for a
month because the guy who sold it to me "loaded with applications" had
installed the trial versions! so i started looking for free replacements,
which lead me to firefox- i then heard about open source- thunderbird and
nVu. then i began digger farther and found linux, or heard of it again. i
always thought that it was for nerds. i also got the gimp for OS X to replace
the photoshop that i had lost.

it was then when i was trying to modify my desktop to look really realy cool-
that i found some programs like xplanet and first heard of the difference
between GNOME and KDE. when i saw the first ubuntu web pages and read teh
philosophy i began to consider that the free programs that i was enjoying on
OS X could be so much better on a free os.

got a couple new(to me) relics from various sources and began experimenting
with installing Warty on them. then when my Hoary cds arrived from ShipIt, i
was really in business. the final step happened when my HD failed in the
workhorse Mac and i needed to get back online in a quickness, as i was in the
middle of some serious college stuff. after performing a replacement for the
HD- because i did not have an OS X CD, i had to install something- so it was
Ubuntu on my PPC.

i have expanded my collection of machines and begin testing the new release
on at least one machine as soon as there is a new Herd/Flight/Flock
available. generally, by the time the first release candidate is out i have
all my machines transistioned. i am looking forward to the next release of
kubuntu because there maybe the newest version of KDE out by then. hopefully
KDE4 will be set up. anyways
