I felt that one, but there was a HUGE one Monday morning around 8:00
centered more or less right under us at work near Waterloo and Bryant, just
south of Guthrie. I have grown accustomed to these quakes like Israel and
don't normally worry about them, but that one genuinely scared me. I was
absolutely sure it was at least a 5, but it ended up only a 4.2. Normally
they just hit the building but that one picked the building up and pushed
it north a bit. Startled me. My family and I live about a mile away from
work, and my wife called to tell me she jumped on top of our 10 month old
son to shield him - that's how intense it was. People standing on the
ground outside even felt it. Most of the quakes aren't strong enough for
that.
There is also an auditorium near work with a lot of glass in front that
suffered a cracked pane in a lesser earthquake a few months ago. I ran
outside thinking for sure there was damage this time, but surprisingly the
glass was fine.
These quakes are weird because they are really quick. I never felt quakes
anywhere else but I thought earthquakes were supposed to rumble for a
while. These rumble for about a quarter of a second, a huge wave slams the
building, there is a quarter second of rumble again and that is it. When
they started years ago we thought a semi ran into the building or something
- like a cannon or an explosion. They never take more than maybe 2 seconds
at the very most.
