Fine, this manual fix solved my problem -- Thanks for this useful
feedback.

At this point I would like to go two steps further:

. I would like to disable the standby mode each time I close the
lid, so I can keep my iBook running also with a closed lid
(This worked fine on Debian unstable with pmud).

. I would like to add a GNOME-applet to the GNOME panel which
would allow me to suspend the the iBook by selecting a given
menu option in the applet, e.g. "Suspend". This would allow
me to suspend my iBook manually (and not each time the lid
closes) when I need to. As far as I remember this was also
possible on Debian unstable using the GNOME Battery Charge
	  Monitor (GNOME 2.6) or similar.

Thanks once again for feedback.
Regards,

 I.
