That could be a problem actually. I know other apps like Firefox get
really screwed up if you run them as root. Perhaps something like that
happened. Did you try dragging the fonts to fonts:/// as a normal user
and then open /home/username/.fonts ? In my case they didn't show up
immediately in fonts:///.
I'm sending this reply back to the list too - in case someone notices
an error in my advice. :)
