UBuntu on older machines ?

Last year, when I was trying to Fedora Core 1 on a Pentium 1 233mhz
with 96 megs of ram, I
ended up using pawn as my window manager:
  http://www.pleyades.net/pawm/

It is very bare, and nothing fancy, but I don't don't think you can
find a smaller memory-footprint window manager than this one.  And at
the time it was enough for my needs on that desktop machine.  But I
never tried it on a Debian machine, but I suspect it will work.
