I've installed XFce a few times now, on different systems, and have had
no problems at all (had to fetch a few deps from debian testing, though
they're prolly in universe or multiverse), just sit back and watch it
build. :-)

Hmmm, I haven't run into that yet. Must be a YMMV case.

I installed IceWM-experimental, it's _very_ fast and light and has
pretty much every application installed in the programs menu (yes, I
went nuts with synaptic <grin>)

Are you running warty or hoary? I have no stability issues here.
