Hi David
I got it working, but not with gnome - it doesn't let the root window
'shine through'
I tried another WM (for the sake of my test I used, yuk, twm) and it worked OK
I fiddled with nautilus --no-desktop, no joy
Here's my best suggestion to keep the gnome goodness as much as possible
sudo apt-get install openbox
openbox --replace
xsnow
killall nautilus && nautilus --no-desktop && xsnow
YMMV
George
