When I start the system, the process stops at the command line. The last thing I see on the boot-up list (don't know what I should call it) is "* Checking battery state [OK]" and then I'm at the command prompt. Nothing unusual happend during the installation. This has happend a couple of times before (at previous installations in different machines), but at those times the system booted to GNOME after first restart (sudo shutdown -h now).

I have installed Ubuntu five times before this insident and they all
were normal installations. I don't rememeber that anything was different
this time - I think I started the installation with "Enter" and then I
was asked to choose the locale setting. From there on too I don't
remember anything strange. Is it possible to do a custom installation
without noticing any difference from previous normal installations?
