Synaptic any better than Windows ?

YES ! I am glad I worried un-necessarily. So basically, it's easy to
remove a Linux program cleanly then. :-)

Yes, I have now improved my understanding of package managment, and
strengthened even further my love for my Penguin. So I killed two birds
with one stone....
