Hot swap support

Hey Ubunters,
I've got a 2.4 Ghz P4 machine with an intel desktop motherboard and
500Mb ram. It's got two SATA drives raided together running warty.
I want to add about 100Gb of removable storage, and it needs to be
removable without powering down the machine. I don't need any fancy
raid, simply a removable hard drive of some type.
What should I get? The machine has some USB ports, but I don't know how
to tell if they are 2.0 or not. There isn't a firewire port, but I
suppose I could get a firewire card if there are any that are supported.
I was planning to get an ide frame, but I found out via google that the
kernel support is lacking for IDE hot swap.
I'm hoping for an inexpensive solution where I can drop a standard hard
drive into one of the machine bays and have it hot plug into the box.
The purpose of the removable storage is to back up files from the
internal drives to the removable so I can rotate backups offsite.
Any advice or suggestions appreciated.
