Xinerama and gnome on Thinkpad T40

Hi!

I'm wondering if it is possible to have different contents on two
different monitors, using Xinerama, Gnome and a Thinkpad T40 with an ATI
Radeon Mobility 7500. I have tried to accomplish this but to no avail. I
know that the card can do it in Windows, but that doesn't help me very
much, since I don't use windows. 

I attach my XF86Config for further reading. 
What else is useful? 
Kernel: 2.6.8.1-3-686
Ubuntu 5.04 "Hoary Hedgehog" Development Branch

Oh, yeah, when I use this XF86Config I get the screen on both monitors,
but it's cloned, and that's not half as useful...
