OK
I installed Firestarter and enabled NAT. A couple of details I left out.
The laptop to be connected also runs Ubuntu, I currently have the
network card set to DHCP, should I change it to manual and specify a
192.168.0.x address? It doesn't seem to work with DHCP.
How should I set eth1 on the main box (LAN nic)? DHCP or manual?

many thanks

David
