best thing to do is to add as much memory as possible - and use a low
memory window manager, such as XFCE4 or IceWM. My Compaq 233MX was
slugish with 64mb, feels a lot snappier with 96mb (usable, at least).
Gnome is still slow, but can be used for administrative manipulations.
Another 64mb of EDO SODIMM ram should be around $25 us cy (pricewatch
listing).
