Steve,
Welcome, fellow Linux newb! I too have been using Windows since 3.11 and
am quite 'stuck' in my ways. I find Ubuntu very interesting and yet I
struggle because I simply do not know what commands to use in certain
situations (what do you mean there is no CTRL+ALT+DEL to end broken
programs!).
I've joined the DocumentationTeam, simply to edit the Wiki for spelling,
grammar, formatting, etc. This little bit I feel I can do, and
contribute to a greater whole.
To attempt to answer one of your questions, the DocTeam is currently
working on several 'learning' docs for Ubuntu and Linux.
* Ubuntu Book
o https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/LearningUbuntuOutline
* https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/LinuxIntro
* https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/FirstSteps
* https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/EverydayUsage
Hopefully these will help you find your way, at least initially! If you
need more help, try hopping on IRC, or simply ask questions to the
mailing list as you've done!
