No, it is not enough to rename it.
/usr/bin/vim will not be updated because of the installed diversion.
You have to remove the diversion.
sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/bin/vim
After this you can try to reinstall the up-to-date versions of vim and 
kvim. It is ok to have the diverted vim but kvim should provide a 
/usr/bin/vim.
Maybe there was or is a bug in kvim, I don't use KDE.
