A word of caution: In my experience, if you uninstall ubuntu-desktop, then if you later decide you want to install anything else from the Ubuntu main respository, it will try to reinstall ubuntu-desktop, which will in turn uninstall whatever it was that you installed which conflicted with ubuntu-desktop. -- zerohalo
