Screen resolution and no sound!

 I just installed warty-release-install-i386 on an old IBM PC 300GL.  I
have no sound at all and can't change the screen resolution from 640 x
480.  I have tried the screen resolution preferences and th only thing
in the menu is 640 x 480.
The sound card on this computer is a generic Sound Blaster PCI card.  It
had sound under Windows 95.  I don't even get anything out of the PC
speaker.  Any suggestions?  I first tried the boot cd-rom and had a
choice in screen resolutions there but still had no sound.
