Kernel headers

you downloaded the kernel source.  you just need the headers package
for the kernel you are currently running.

try installing the package "linux-kernel-headers"

i have installed:

(@)> $ dpkg --get-selections|grep head
kernel-headers-2.6.8.1-1-pm                     install
linux-headers-2.6-686                           install
linux-headers-2.6.8.1-3                         install
linux-headers-2.6.8.1-3-686                     install
linux-kernel-headers                            install
