linux-image source package / dpatch

Hi,
I try to compile a kernel image using the linux-image-2.6.8.1 source
package (the real source "linux-source-2.6.8.1" that creates the .deb,
not the deb linux-source package).
I want to apply patchs (synaptics ALPS, suspend mode, and to upgrade the
firmwares, etc), and for it to compile and generate the .deb packages, I
need to add my patch in "dpatch" format in the "debian/patches"
directory.
The problem is that I don't really understand how to create these files.
I found the "dpatch-edit-patch" utility, but I don't understand how to
use it in this case.
Documentation on how to make debian packages is really hard to find :(
I succeeded in doing something, but it doesn't work very well (unpatch
fails during clean).
If someone could explain this to me, or have some good links...
Thank's
Eric
