Personally, I see zero value in gthumb. It doesn't use the mousewheel
to navigate through directories, it uses a nonstandard interface where
nautilus works just fine (why do you need two sets of thumbnails?) and
it doesn't even fit in from a usability perspective because the way it
responds to clicks doesn't match the rest of the desktop.



I always thought the best widget of this type ever was irfanview for
windows. In the gnome world gqview is very nearly its equal when it
comes to browsing and slideshows. You'll need to change only a couple
of preferences to make it behave like OOTB irfanview: turn off
"mousewheel scrolls image," enable two pass render and preload next
image, disable dithering, and you'll find it's quite speedy and easy to
use. Just set nautilus to open with gqview by default and then you'll
have a consistent interface to all your image folders.
