Installing ubuntu on mac

To dual boot, simply do the following: (this worked in warty for me)

1. Install Mac OS X first. As soon as the installer starts, run Disk
Utility to partition the disk. In my case I split the hard drive in
half. The first half should be an HFS+ partition for MacOSX, and then
leave the rest as free space.

2. Install Mac OS X as usual (it will be installed automatically on the
HFS+ partition)

3. After M ac OS X is installed, Boot the Ubuntu installation CD.

4. Select to manually partition the disk, place the cursor over the
free space and hit enter. In the menu that is displayed, choose to
automatically partition the free space. This will create an Apple
bootstrap, swap, and root partition for you automatically.

5. Complete Ubuntu installation as prompted.

In my case, G3 iBook 800, Mac OS X and Linux were both automatically
detected and available as boot options in the yaboot menu when I
rebooted the machine. Hope this helps someone.
