[apologies if this message ends up duplicate, but originally posted it 2
and ahalf hours ago and still doesn't appears on the list, so trying
again...]

I did some searching and found that the next Ubuntu release will have a
very fancy and complex boot splash system. Can't wait to see that.
However I don't want to wait 5 months for it, and don't need something
as fancy as what they described in the Wiki.

So, in the meantime, what about writing a nice HowTo on the site, to
explain how to do it 'by hand' :

1) switch GRUB to graphical mode and display a background image (can
GRUB be graphical, or is it just LILO ? If so, how to switch to LILO ?)
2) when kernel loads, display background image behind all the debug
info, and also display the image when in silent mode with no text and
just the progress bar
3) same thing when turning the machine off as the kernel unloads
everything.

I come from Mandrake which had graphics everywhere (albeit extremely
ugly !), so it must be possible, just need the HowTo....

I am sure someone out there can do that ! :o)))

Vince.
