Hi,

Parallel-Port? As I'm not familar with udefs (kernel >= 2.6) and
parallel-port devices, I need some further Informations.

To sum up this thread first before talking on:

- Your scanner is connected via parallel-port
- The User you want to scan is added to group scanner
- /dev/parport0 does not exist

You told /dev/parport0 doesn't exist? But sane says it's using it?
Only /dev/lp0 does exist, although your scanner is connected?
Does directory /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0 exist?
What's the output of "sane-find-scanner -p", when root starts it / the user
you want to scan from starts it?

You should try this order. First do a " sane-find-scanner -p" and check if
/dev/parport0 exists, then the same from the user-account you want to scan
from.

cu
Sebastian
