cant find grub.conf

hey guys,

when i boot, grub executes a bunch of commands (kernel parameters
right?).  one of them that mine runs is acpi=s2_sleep but i need it to
run acpi=s3_sleep.  its my understanding that i should be able to
change this in my grub.conf file right?  but i cant find that file
anywhere (locate grub.conf returns nothing).

what am i doing wrong?
