Browsing shares on a Windows 2000 machine

Sorry to drag up this old post.

I'm having a similar problem with smb shares. I can view and access
shares on a Win XP Home machine just fine, but it won't let me write to
any file on the share, permission not given. Everything is read only.
However, I can save files to the share as long as I don't alter
anything already there. Is there any way to fix this so that I can
properly work on things without saving new files in circles all the
time?

What's more annoying is that I currently have an issue where it won't
let me access select files. So far, I can't determine what these select
files have in common that dissallows my access to them, but they all
happen to be Windows executables (exe).
Any suggestions?
