MIDI for AC97 card?

I have a built-in sound card of AC97 type (Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM 
(ICH4....) in laptop.

I downloaded timidity + rosegarden from Hoary repositories in hope of 
playback MIDI files.

But timidity won't start in graphical mode. In command line it's also 
doing nothing.
Rosegarden hangs at the splash screen (nice picture saying "Initializing 
view").


What should I do to have MIDI support?
