Taskbar issue ?

Being used to mostly Windows GUI environment, apologies if this actually
a non-issue.

I just installed Ubuntu in a Compaq workstation. I must applaud Ubuntu's
developers efforts here - it was a painless process, installed straight
away.

Once installed, I ran a few applications straight away; OpenOffice,
Firefox, a console, etc.

However, I noticed that in the taskbar / bottom panel, only OpenOffice
is listed. And when I minimized Firefox, it's just completely gone from
the desktop, so I no longer able to access it.

I searched this list's archive, found a post dated 18 Sep from Jeff,
about enabling Window List applet.
There are 3 issues that I encountered with this:

1. Normal users might not know how to enable this functionality, and may
become frustrated.

2. Right-clicking on the bottom panel doesn't show the "Add to Panel"
option, as noted in Jeff's email.

3. Right-clicking on the top panel enabled me to enable the Window List
applet, but it showed up on the (already quite) crowded top panel,
instead of on the bottom panel.

So if I may suggest, this should be enabled by default on the bottom panel.

Also it'd be great if someone could inform me on how to move the Window
List applet to the bottom panel.
According to this post, it should be as simple as a drag-and-drop, but
Window List just disappeared when I tried to drag it to the bottom:

Many thanks in advance.

cheers,
Harry
