Ubuntu and System Domains

Thanks for the info. How does this apply to files other than
apps. Fonts for example. How do I get the system to know to
look in a user's home directory for something like
"~/usr/share/fonts" (I know that's not what it would be called,
but that's the principle I'm getting at.)
