Touchpad on Sharp MM20

I've seen several articles on internet about getting the touchpad of a
Sharp MM20 working in other distributions, but the directions don't seem
to work for Ubuntu.  Anyone tried Ubuntu on this (wonderfully portable)
subnotebook?  Everything else seems to work fine so far, and USB mice
allow me to circumvent the problem.  However, I'd like to know that if I
forget my USB mouse, I'm not dead in the water...
