Kernel upgrade

Loving the Distro guys I have found my new home, but alas Im having a bit of 
trouble, after installing the latest 686 kernel which installed fine and 
seems to boot fine as well but when I get to the login prompt my mouse and 
keyboard (both are USB) dont work. But they still work in the 386 kernel can 
anyone help me solve this please?
