Both thanks for the help.

It looks like that Windows also doesn't recognize the partition. Every
time I try to open it, it asks me if I want to format it. Diskmanager of
W2k tells me that's a raw partition and if I want to run a chkdsk on it,
chkdsk tells me that it only runs on ntfs partitions.

The agony :)

Anyway I didn't give up and downloaded a trial version of an application
called File Scavenger. I had to manually enter the sector were the
partition started and how many sectors it contained (size). Then you
could do a search for certain or all files and behold it found my files. I
tried it with a couple of mp3's it found but mediaplayer nor winamp could
play them. However they were the correct size. I also tried a simple text
file that I had on the damaged partition and it came out ok.

So basically the data is still there but the partition information is
incorrect. I tried setting the flags with cfdisk but that tool already
told me it was an NTFS parition which is correct.

Anyway now that I know the files are still there I feel much better. I
just need a way to extract them from the partition like filescanvenger
does.
