building initrd into kernel package

I have built some inotify kernel's to be used but I have been having to
build the initrd manually.  Is there a way to build the initrd to be
part of the kernel package that way I might offer these kernel's to
people who would like to use them, without them having to manually build
the initrd and than manually update grub?  I know I am just missing a
step or something.
