iMac network hardware

Well, despite not finding my network hardware, I continued with the 
installation. It finished copying files, ejected the disc, and told me 
it was going to reboot to ask me a few questions. Upon rebooting, I let 
the boot menu choices select their defaults (ie- not pressing any key 
and letting it select after the timeout period) and it hangs at "Please 
wait, loading kernel..." ... This does not sound good.
