[hoary] No GDM spash sceen -> Desktop is missing

Hi,

since the last update on Hoary I don't get my desktop anymore. After 
logging in via the GDM login screen nothing happens. I can only see a 
brown screen and my mouse but nothing else. The usual ubuntu splash does 
not show up at all.
