I think there is something to what you are saying here.

I'm sure no hackers elite, but computer scientis and switched from osx and debian to ubuntu. The reasons:

- Works out of the box and is great set up
- Has a great support -> much better than apple
- Declares myself as emanzipated user, which apple doesn't (for instance mountftp is readonly supported-no driver support for third party wlan,...) ..
- The philosophy is great, free system which lives from users so everybody gives what he can give-thats how my world should be, it is within the linux world, it is within rainbows and some other things I participate in...and it is the spirit within ubuntu and thats great..

So I'm not happy about the lack of multimedia support as I am an hobby artist, did some films which are accessible via the web (quicktime, realplayer, winmedia streams) but won't play on ubuntu and I can't use ubuntu to cut more stuff and I also got lots of music which waits to get onto the computer and out into the free world so many people can enjoy it.... But I'm optimistic and I believe the legal problems get worked out and there will be great multimedia support in the future.

And I can live with the lack of multimedia support, and I can't live with company policy which are dedicated to such one thing thats money making. And that's why I (even if I'm new to ubuntu) believe in ubuntu and will stick with ubuntu!!!
