Ah yeah, forgot about that point.
When the machine boots and I try to enter the SATA card's BIOS, it
doesn't work ! It prints on the screen :
"To enter BIOS, press <Control + S> or <F4>"
But it doesn't work, it won't let me in :-/
It only prints two lines, to see what it detects on each of the two SATA
connectors.
That is, it doesn't detect anything !
This is the only things that would go against the controller instead of
the drive.
Hmmm, if the SATA card BIOS won't let me in, and doesn't detect the
drive at boot, yet still lets Ubuntu detect it properly (at least Hoary,
but not Warty), then maybe it's indeed the SATA card that's faulty ?
hmmm... reminds me of similar problems with my SCSI system. I had pages
of kernel errors when trying to use an old SCSI CD burner (Plextor
again...), and it turned out to be my (I thought !) trusty Adaptec 2940
SCSI card that was the problem, not the drive !
Okay, so let's replace the drive first, as it's under warranty, then,
try another SATA card...
