Which ideas?

I have an AMD64 with an SATA RAID (Promise) onboard.
If i choose to use the single drives (no raid) i can install it
Ubuntu (and i did so) without problems.
But if i want to use RAID 0 or 1 Ubuntu (nor any other
distro i know) doesnt recognize the raid, it only sees
the single drives.
The same happened with an sil3112 raid controller.
But it seems like Ubuntu lags when i do a large
drive operation on my disk.
