Well, I'm not terribly sure it matters to me. Ubuntu works for me. Debian never did. While I can play around with the OS and different settings (much more so than the average desktop user), I'm basically a desktop user. Ubuntu does what I want it to, without having to google setups for things I don't yet know how to do. If any distribution of linux is going to make headway with the average user, that's one thing it's going to have to do. If Debian is unable to do it, the average user will find a distribution that can.
