Debian is, right now, the most broadly accepted distribution in the
world. I challenge you to find any distributor that claims they pay no
attention to the work done by the debian developers.
Why do you think canonical scooped up the debian developers it did?
Could it be that Mr. Shuttleworth recognizes value? I'm just a luser,
and I saw it 5 years ago, before I even knew how to take advantage of
it.
I think I read somewhere that there are less than 10 paid ubuntu
developers who have commit rights to debian; that's old news, maybe it's
up to 20. Anyone who's followed debian's development over the last few
years will recognize their names. Do you really think that these
competent people won't continue to leverage not only the direct
assistance of other debian developers, but also the labor of those 900+
developers who don't give a damn about ubuntu, but just continue to make
usable packages? And since the ubunters understand what debian does for
them, why would you even think they would have any interest in debian
dying? Or of even becoming a true fork from debian, as I've seen some
other lusers babbling about on slashdot?
