Hoary, DVD to DivX (or XVid)...

Dear all,

is there any simple tool to create a DivX disc from a DVD? I see that VLC is 
able to transcode a DVD to a DivX file, but I don't know how to have a working 
DivX disc from that file.

I beg your pardon for my ignorance on this topic!
