Gnome or KDE?

ex-mac users tend to prefer gnome, because it is fairly elegent and simple

ex-windows users tend prefer kde, but then people with troubled childhoods do strange things

personally, i used to use kde, because gnome looked a bit child-ish (i think it was the big cartoony icons). now gnome looks quite nice (it has a sort of mac os 9 feel), and kde looks like a shiney toy. but with themes you can make them look like anything (or the same).

they are both free so try them both, and give xfce, and one of the minimalist ones a look too. just install them in synaptic and then they will get into the session menu in the login screen.
