I have run Red Hat and then Fedora 1, 2, 3. I had a lot of experience
with it, and really liked it.

But then I played with Ubuntu Warty and about two months ago, decided
it was so much better than Fedora, I wiped out Fedora and replaced it
with Ubuntu.

I still think Fedora is better for a server system. I put Ubuntu on
one of my servers, but I think I will switch back. Ubuntu is really
designed for a desktop system.

Part of the the difference is rpm/yum and deb/apt. There are a lot
more people using Fedora and a lot more repositories out there.
Unfortunately, there are a bunch of conflicting repositories out there
for Fedora. So you have to be more careful.

Ubuntu does not have that problem, but if you add Debian repositories,
you might have to be a bit careful.

Also, synaptic is great. There has been development on a GUI
interface to Yum, but I haven't followed it that much.

I think overall I would be happier if Ubuntu were KDE based, but there
is Kubuntu. I like having the option of several desktop managers and
I also see why Ubuntu went the way they have - it makes sense.

My two cents.
