Hi aroon,

Hardly an expert, but once you put the correct vertical and horizontal
refresh rates in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, Gnome should let you select
whatever refresh rates&resolutions your new monitor is capable of.

You should find the vertical and horizontal frequency ranges in your
monitors' manual, or you can open a terminal in Linux and type "sudo
ddcprobe". It will give infos about your monitor. For example on my
machine it returns (among many other infos) :

****************
monitorrange: 31-69, 55-120
monitorname: NEC M700
monitorserial: 8202877TA
vincent at Lotus-Esprit:~ $
****************
