I cannot login in after a fresh install, don't know root password, and it never asked me to create a user

Something similar happened to me once. Installing hoary, the installation kept 
on asking for user accounts to be created, and when I <cancel>'ed the entire 
installation got terminated.

I installed hoary:
uname -a = 
Linux morten 2.6.10-5-386 #1 Tue Apr 5 12:12:40 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux
