how can i remove gnome-games while keeping ubuntu-desktop?

To be clear, I think Scott is referring to doing a dist-upgrade go
from one release to the next, e.g. 5.10 to 6.04. This is because the
ubuntu-desktop metapackage is sometimes responsible for bringing new
packages along with it as it gets upgraded. those new packages might
get left out if ubuntu-desktop is missing. However doing a
dist-upgrade within your current release should be should be safe even
if ubuntu-desktop has been removed.
