It sounds like a similar permissions problem I got with VMware. I could 
no longer launch as a user, but could as root (sudo). If you try to 
launch the app as normal (not sudo) in a terminal, it should tell you 
where the problem is. For my problem, I no longer had access to a 
preferences file as my normal user.
