How can one add mp3 encoding capability to sox?

Sox should have mp3 ecnoding built in automatically, if it doesn't you might want to try reinstalling it or compiling it from source with the necessary options available, but lame works better anyway so it is probably more worth your while to use that. If you are trying to convert mp3 to wav then the site http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/MP3-CD-Burning.html#INTRO has a good guide. If you are trying to rip from cd, then a number of programs will do the job. For example: Goobox; Grip; or KAudioCreator (my personal favourite because it saves me to create mp3 tags).
