Hi,
I'm trying to install Ubuntiu 5.10 on an IBM think centre S50. No problems
with the install, but after leaving it on for
~24 hours, the system locks.
The symptoms: system left on for 24 hours (overnight). System load
increases from normal almost idle to around 2.5, 3.5.
I can type commands, but they take a long while to load, and eventually,
the system stops responding.
Pressing any key which causes the bell to ring, results in a very long,
drawn out sound..
Based on earlier experiences with debian sarge on the same machine (which
ran just fine!) I killed the X server overnight. Still the same
problem this morning. ( I know the video can't do accelerated X)
One thing I tried this morning was reconfiguring the network (I know some
servers may have been rebooted overnight): However an ifdown eth0
just hangs. Nothing funny in top, didn't see any runaway processes.
(Although top seemed to just hang there).
I really need to release this system to production next week, so any and
all suggestions are welcome.
TimT.
